BEP’s innovative Smart Battery Hub (SBH) is a world-first intelligent battery management system for vessels running two or more outboards, sterndrives, or multiple inboard engines.

Smart Battery Hub simplifies battery management with remotely activated switches, automatic Voltage Sensitive Switching (VSS) and emergency parallel functionality, neatly housed in a robust, easy-to-install, ignition-protected IPX7 enclosure.

SBH monitors and transmits individual battery voltages and full house bank state of charge over NMEA2000, for easy integration with multi-function displays. Remote battery switching is operated via NMEA2000 or wired switches, with physical manual override of all battery switches for safety and servicing.

SBH works-with-CZone®, so users can control batteries from CZone® Waterproof Keypads, monitor them on any CZone® touchscreen or any compatible CZone® partner device.  SBH works seamlessly as a CZone® module in networked systems.

“We designed the Smart Battery Hub with the OEM in mind. Simplifying installs, reducing the overall footprint and faster installation times resulting in lower system costs with shorter battery cable runs” says Geoff Morrish, BEP Product Manager.

VSS voltage thresholds can be configured to suit, or enabled/disabled with each installation. Switch inputs can be assigned to any function and two additional sensor inputs can be used for monitoring volts, fluid levels and temperature.

BEP’s all-in-one battery monitoring and management system features magnetic latching, 300-amp interrupt switching technology, two additional sensor inputs and true mechanical override. At less than 3.5mA in sleep mode, power consumption has been optimized for ultra-low draw on the batteries.

BEP’s Smart Battery Hub works with 12- or 24-volt systems and carries a 5 year warranty.

We recommend the Mastervolt & CZone USB Interface Programming Tool when using any Czone products.  Get it here on our site!

Key Specifications & PerformanceAmperage Continuous Rating: 300ACranking Amperage Rating: 1450AIntermittent Amperage Rating: 700ASystem Voltage: Works on either 12V or 24V marine electrical networks.Waterproofing: Built with a robust, ignition-protected IPX7 waterproof enclosure.Power Consumption: Draws a maximum of 92mA during operation, dropping to less than 3.5mA in sleep mode.Core Features & BenefitsIntelligent Automated Charging: Features automated, dual-direction Voltage Sensitive Switching (VSS). It ensures your engine batteries and house banks charge efficiently without risk of accidental depletion.Remote & Digital Switching: Seamlessly integrates with the CZone Control & Monitoring network or standard NMEA2000 networks. This allows you to flip battery switches remotely directly from your Multi-Function Display (MFD).Real-Time Fuel Gauge Monitoring: Transmits individual battery voltages and full house bank State of Charge (SoC) data straight to your dashboard over NMEA2000.Safety Overrides: Includes built-in, physical manual override switches directly on the enclosure for safety and servicing emergencies.Scalability: You can parallel two hubs together to scale up and manage massive 4, 5, or 6-engine marine setups.Extra Auxiliary Inputs: Includes 2 extra sensor inputs to manage fluid levels, external temperatures, or additional tank voltages.

Installation Details

Mounting RequirementsOrientation: Mount vertically on a bulkhead to maintain its IPX7 waterproof integrity.Location: Install as close to the battery banks as possible to minimize high-amperage cable runs.Environment: Ensure the space is dry and well-ventilated, away from high-heat areas like engine exhaust manifolds.Clearance: Leave at least 2 inches (50 mm) of clear space around the perimeter for ventilation and cable routing.Electrical Connections & WiringStud Size: All high-power battery and load studs are M10 (3/8 inch) stainless steel.Terminal Torque: Torque all M10 nuts to 10 Nm (88.5 in-lbs) to prevent arcing. Do not overtighten.Cable Gauge: Use a minimum of 2/0 AWG (70 mm²) marine-grade tinned copper cable for standard runs. Upgrade to 4/0 AWG (120 mm²) for runs exceeding 10 feet (3 meters).Fusing: Install high-amperage Class T or MRBF fuses within 7 inches (178 mm) of each battery positive terminal.Network & Control IntegrationCZone Connection: Connect the integrated Deutsch connector to your CZone backbone using a standard CZone drop cable.NMEA 2000: Connect to a standard NMEA 2000 network using a CZone-to-NMEA2000 adapter cable if an MFD display is used for switching.Power Supply: The hub logic requires a continuous 12V or 24V unswitched supply connection via the auxiliary plug pin.Address Assignment: Set the internal dip switches to match the module address generated in your CZone configuration file.Physical DimensionsThe exact physical footprint needed for installation layout planning:DimensionMeasurementHeight11.69 inches (297 mm)Width11.53 inches (293 mm)Depth4.29 inches (109 mm)Weight11.46 lbs (5.2 kg)

Pelagic Power Tip

The "PC-Free" Configuration Trick - The unit features a built-in USB port under the main casing. When deploying this unit as part of a wider digital network, you do not need a computer, a CZone configuration cable, or a network gateway to update the boat's system file. The Workflow: Save your .csv or .zcf configuration file directly to a FAT32-formatted USB flash drive (ideally 32GB or smaller). The Action: Plug it directly into the Hub's USB port. The Hub acts as a master gateway, automatically broadcasting the firmware updates or system configurations to all other connected CZone modules over the NMEA2000 backbone.

Operational & Safety Best PracticesAvoid "Ghost" Draw: The Hub boasts an ultra-low sleep current of <3.5mA. However, if you store the boat for winter, wire a physical manual master-switch to the auxiliary unswitched logic wire. If left connected, the internal Voltage Sensitive Switches (VSS) will continuously monitor the dead batteries, preventing the system from entering its deepest sleep state.Preventing Arcing: The internal switching mechanisms use highly efficient magnetic-latching solenoids. If a high-load appliance (like a windlass or thruster) is cycling while the Hub attempts to automatically shed or open a switch bank, micro-arcing can happen. Always configure a load-shedding delay in your MFD setup to kill heavy DC loads 5 seconds before the Hub opens the house circuit. The Override Lockout: When using the physical manual override knobs on the front of the enclosure for servicing, turn and pull the knob outward. This completely locks out remote digital commands from your MFD or keypads, ensuring no one can accidentally energize the lines while you are working on the engines.
