Installation Prerequisites
Power Down: Disconnect all AC and DC power sources, including batteries and inverters.
Location: Mount the panel within 10 feet of the shore power inlet or attachment point. If the distance exceeds 10 feet, additional circuit breakers are required within that initial 10-foot span.
Environment: Choose a dry area protected from water and away from flammable vapors (e.g., propane or lead-acid batteries), as these breakers are not ignition-protected.

10-Foot Rule: If this panel serves as your primary shore power disconnect, it must be installed within 10 feet (measured along the conductors) of the shore power inlet or attachment point. If the distance is greater, you must install additional fuses or breakers within 10 feet of the inlet to meet ABYC safety standards.
10 AWG Wire: For a 30A AC system, use 10 AWG (American Wire Gauge) multi-strand marine-grade wire. Avoid standard solid-core "Romex" used in houses, as boat vibrations can cause solid wire to fatigue and snap.
Reverse Polarity LED: The BSS-8077 features a red LED that illuminates if the Hot and Neutral (or Hot and Ground) wires are swapped. If this light is ON, disconnect power immediately and trace your wiring back to the source.
"Trip Free" Safety: The breaker is designed so it cannot be held in the "ON" position during a fault. If it keeps tripping, do not tape the toggle up; find the short or overload first.
