High-Performance 48V Alternator for Advanced Power Systems
This high-output alternator provides exceptional charging performance for demanding 48-volt systems, designed to support modern marine and industrial power setups. Its durable construction, efficient regulation, and optimised RPM range ensure consistent output under heavy loads while maintaining temperature stability for long-term reliability.
Key Features
- High Efficiency at Low RPM: Produces over 4 kW (≈78 A) at 2 500 RPM and up to 6 kW (≈111 A) at 4 000 RPM, ensuring powerful charging even at idle speeds.
- True 48 V Rotor Design: Purpose-built rotor and field assembly operate natively at 48 V, providing cooler, more efficient performance than converted systems.
- Isolated Ground Configuration: Designed for installations that require complete electrical isolation between alternator and chassis ground.
- Advanced Cooling System: Features dual internal fans, external rectifier, and heat-shedding coatings to maintain consistent performance under sustained load.
- Heavy-Duty Durability: Constructed for long life in harsh marine and industrial environments, with SAE J1171 ignition protection and corrosion-resistant housing.
- Continuous Power Delivery: Maintains steady, high-current output for large battery banks and hybrid power systems requiring reliable 48 V generation.
Built for performance-critical systems, this alternator ensures dependable charging efficiency and robust power delivery across all operating conditions.

Installation Details
Installation Details
1. Mechanical Mounting & AlignmentBracket Requirement: Mounts directly to the factory Mercedes-Benz N62 auxiliary secondary alternator bracket.Aftermarket Solutions: Vehicles lacking the N62 engine option require a dedicated vehicle-specific secondary mounting kit.Hardware Kit: Secure the casing using a specialized high-tensile bolt kit (such as the TAK210).Pulley Calibration: Ensure the 50mm K6 Overrunning Alternator Pulley (OAP) aligns flawlessly with the engine serpentine belt track.Torque Warning: Always use a secondary wrench to hold the stud base secure when tightening mounting or terminal bolts to prevent internal housing damage.2. High-Amperage 48V DC WiringIsolated Topology: This alternator uses an isolated ground layout. You must run distinct, dedicated heavy-gauge positive (+) and negative (-) cables.House Bank Integration: Wire the output exclusively to your secondary lithium house battery bank.Chassis Separation: Never connect the 48V output to the Sprinter's factory 12V starting/chassis battery system.Circuit Protection: Install an inline fuse on the positive cable directly at the house battery bank terminal connection.Spike Protection: Mount an alternator protection shield across the output terminals to prevent catastrophic diode failure from accidental battery disconnection.3. Smart Regulator Wire MappingThe A8000 alternator cannot generate power without its external regulator wire harness. Connect the leads as follows:Stator Wire: Plugs into the alternator stator post to feed real-time engine RPM data to the regulator.Field Wire: Plugs into the alternator field terminal to supply the rotor with current.Ignition Wire (Brown): Tap into a switched, key-on 12V DC source on the Mercedes chassis to enable charging only when the engine runs.Alternator Temp Sensor: Bolt the temperature probe directly onto the alternator frame to allow automatic thermal throttling above 100°C (212°F).Battery Temp Sensor: Connect the second probe to the negative post of the target battery bank to protect against cold or over-temp lithium charging.System Integration: Connect the built-in CAN-bus port to your vehicle's power management network (such as a Victron Cerbo GX) using standard network cabling.4. Digital Activation & TuningApp Control: Energize the vehicle and open the companion mobile setup application via Bluetooth.Voltage Definition: Select 48V as the system operational voltage.Chemistry Profile: Input your specific battery type parameters (typically LiFePO4) to match target bulk, absorption, and float charge ceilings.

Belt Slip Prevention & Thermal Management
The most critical installation issue on a 48V Sprinter dual-alternator setup is managing extreme belt tension and high heat. Generating 8,000 Watts puts massive mechanical load on the serpentine belt, which causes rapid heat buildup. The T-Idler Check: If you are using an aftermarket bracket kit instead of the factory N62 bracket, ensure the adjustable T-idler pulley is set to maximum tension. A loose belt will instantly glaze and snap when the alternator demands full field current. The "Warm-Up" App Delay: Use the companion mobile application to program a 30 to 60-second engine start delay into the external regulator. This prevents the alternator from throwing an immediate 8 kW load onto a cold Sprinter engine during startup idle.Belt Wrap Angle: Verify the belt wraps around at least one-third (120 degrees) of the alternator clutch pulley. If the wrap angle is too shallow, the belt will slip and chirp under heavy charging loads.Airflow Clearance: Never bunch your 48V DC cables or regulator harnesses directly behind the alternator casing. Blocked rear vents trap heat, causing the internal sensors to trigger thermal throttling and cut your charging power in half.
