Mastervolt 81205505 Mac Plus DC-DC Converter 24/24 50A
SKU:MVT81205505
A DC to DC Converter allows you charge a battery bank using another battery bank as the power source. Originally designed to convert voltages (ex 24V to 12V) the flexibility of DC to DC converters also makes them ideal for single voltage vessels that have mixed chemistry batteries.
The Mac Plus 24/24-50 uses a 24V bank to charge another 24V bank with up to 50A. We use the 24/24 in nearly every 24V lithium powered system we design. Common application is connected between a lead acid start battery and a lithium house bank. In this application the Mac Plus will eliminate the need of changing alternators or starter batteries but still allow safe alternator based charging of a lithium house bank.

24V/24V 50A DC to DC Converter
- Charge 2 battery banks from 1 charging source (ex. alternator, solar, AC charger)
- Compatible battery types: Flooded, Gel, AGM, Lithium, and Custom
- Configurable voltage "On" set points
- Optional analog signal triggers unit "On" or "Off"
- Can act as a power supply without second battery in place
- Can be paralleled with up to 4 units for maximum power transfer
- Temperature compensation to prolong the life of the battery being charged
- Silent, fan-less operation
- Masterbus or CZone and NMEA 2000 configuration, monitoring, & control
- Optional programming via dip switches for simplified installation
-
3-step+ charging
- Bulk - Provides constant current to charge the batteries to approximately 80%
- Absorption - Provides constant voltage to top off the batteries to 100%
- Pre-Float - Lowers voltage on each output as the individual output finishes absorption even if remaining batteries have not completed absorption
-
Float - After all batteries are full the charger moves to float which provides reduced constant voltage to maintain full batteries and provide power to loads
- Plus - 1 hour every 14 days the battery charger automatically transitions from Float to Absorption to keep the batteries fresh and prolong their life

The Mac Plus line of DC to DC Converters is multiple products rolled into 1.
First it is a battery charger that uses a DC battery bank to charge a second battery bank. What makes it different from an ACR or a traditional battery isolator is it acts as a 3 step+ charger for the battery bank it's charging. That means no matter the charging source or cleanliness of power of the first battery bank. the second bank will be charged with ideal power. This makes it ideal in mixed chemistry application, especially lithium.
Our favorite application is to actually use the Mac Plus in the above configuration and have it run when a larger AC battery charger is charging the source battery. This prevents the need from having a second AC battery charger for smaller batteries because the Mac Plus can pass through the power when the other charger is running. This means the Mac Plus acts like an AC battery charger and an alternator based charger in 1 unit.
The Mac Plus can be programmed to connect and disconnect based on the source battery voltage. This means you can ensures start batteries stay charged and the charging only occurs when the alternator is running. This voltage can either be the naturally sensed voltage of the source battery, or be an optional voltage sense input from separately run signal wires.
Additionally, the Mac Plus can also be programmed to connect and disconnect based on an analog input. This has countless opportunities like triggering off an engine run key, fuel pump, or even just an analog toggle switch. This feature is ideal when the Mac Plus is set up to be a power supply instead of a battery charger.
Lastly, the Mac Plus can communicate and be controlled in either a Masterbus or CZone/NMEA 2000 network. Making it an ideal product to integrate in larger systems.
