Pelagic Power Tip

Did you know that ATO and ATC doesn't stand for "Open" and "Closed"? It is a common misconception that ATO stands for "automotive style fuse - closed" and ATC stands for "automotive style open". This is simply a bad rumor. AT does represent automotive since these fuses were originally designed for vehicles decades ago. However the O and C are simply different letters chosen by competing fuse manufacturers back when the fuses were developed. Many people think that a "closed" style fuse is better in marine because closing the bottom of the fuse will protect against salt air. The reality is ATO/ATC fuses produce heat and having an opening actually helps dissipate heat. Whether you choose ATO or ATC really just comes down to access, they are essentially the same which is why we label them both names.
