Installation Details
Installation Details
Safety First: Disconnect all AC and DC power sources, including shore power, inverters, and batteries, before beginning.
Mounting: Use the provided cutout template to select a flat mounting location. Secure the panel using the supplied mounting screws.
AC Wiring:
Hot (Black): Connect the main AC hot feed to the panel's hot bus bar.
Neutral (White): Connect the neutral feed to the neutral bus bar.
Ground (Green): Connect the AC safety ground to the safety ground bus.
Note: If the shore power inlet is more than 10 feet from the panel, an additional main breaker must be installed within that 10-foot run.
Branch Circuits: Connect individual AC loads to the corresponding branch circuit breakers. Ensure wire sizing matches the breaker's amperage rating.
Backlighting (DC): The label backlighting requires a 12V or 24V DC source. Connect the red wire to a positive DC supply (typically your lighting switch) and the yellow/black wire to your DC ground.
Testing: After checking all connections, reconnect power. Verify there is no "Reverse Polarity" light and test each circuit for proper voltage.
Pelagic Power Tip
Pelagic Power Tip
The most common point of confusion with the Blue Sea Systems 1210-BSS is the wiring for the indicator lights. Because this panel is modular, the wiring for the "ON" LEDs and the backlighting must be handled carefully to avoid common pitfalls:
AC Indicator Lights (Green LEDs): Each of the four circuit breakers has a small black wire pre-attached to the circuit board. These wires provide power to the green indicator LEDs when the circuit is active.
Pro Tip: For these LEDs to function, they must have a path back to the AC Neutral bus. If your indicator lights aren't coming on even though the circuit has power, check that the "hot" leg of the LED is properly connected to the load side of your breaker and the other side reaches the AC Neutral.
Backlighting (The "Cool Factor"): The labels on the 360 series panels are backlit for night use, but this part of the panel runs on DC power, not AC.
Connection: You must run a separate 12V or 24V DC positive wire to the red DC terminal on the back of the panel and a DC negative to the yellow/black wire.
Tip: Hook this up to your vessel's general instrument lighting switch so the panel labels glow only when you have your other dash lights on.
